Vice President

Rosalind “Roz” Matthews is being nominated for the position of Vice-President of Black Family Genealogy and History Society, (BFGHS) 2023-2024.

 

Roz began her genealogical journey in 1990 at the Family History Center and Library in West Los Angeles, California. By the end of 1992, after organizing the very first family reunion in California for her relatives, Roz stopped researching to focus on her family, and career in Communication Division, Los Angeles Police Department. (LAPD)

 

In 2011, after 31 years of service, Roz retired from LAPD Communications Division as a Supervisor.  Two years later, in 2013, Roz moved to Chandler, Arizona. Once she settled into the Arizona lifestyle, she decided to re-start her genealogical journey.

 

Roz is an avid researcher, who has attended the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (SLIG) in January, 2019, and January, 2020. She attended the Midwest African American Genealogy Institute in July, 2022. She has taken research trips to Washington, D.C. to the National Archives, and the Library of Congress. She has also taken research trips to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah.

 

Rosalind believes in service to the genealogy community. She has participated in the following board or service positions:

 

Arizona Genealogical Advisory Board, Calendar of Events coordinator, 2015-2016. Secretary January-August, 2016. Board position.

 

Special Interest Group (SIG) Coordinator, African American Lineage/Document Trail, West Valley Genealogical Society, September 2016-January 2020.

 

Director of Fundraising for West Valley Genealogical Society, 2017-2019. Board Position.

 

Facilitator (President) of the Avondale/Glendale Chapter of Family History Society of Arizona, 2016, 2017, 2018. Board Position.

 

Bylaws Committee Chairperson, Black Family Genealogy and History Society, 2018-present. Board position.

 

Special Interest Group (SIG) Facilitator for Black Family Genealogy and History Society, Efficient Genealogical Research, and African American Lineage Through United States Document Research, 2021 to present.

 

Roz has been a BFGHS member in good standing since 2015.
